Young Endeavour Adventure!

Each year, Rothschild Australia sponsors one young carer to take part in an amazing adventure on the tall ship Young Endeavour. This year, Sadie took up the challenge and set sail on the Young Endeavour with other young Australians and a specially trained crew from The Royal Australian Navy. Sadie is 18 years old and cares for her sister who has Sanfilippo syndrome. Check out what Sadie had to say about her Young Endeavour experience!

“I first applied for the scholarship to conquer my fear of heights and boats. I saw this as an opportunity to get over my fear, whilst meeting new people and learning lifelong skills. Some of the activities included; setting and furling sails, taking the helm by myself, climbing the 32m loft multiple times & keeping watch through the night. The ship was very compact, the whole concept of personal space didn’t even exist for the whole duration of the 11 days on the ship. I met new people who became like my family. I can confidently say that I made friends for life.

My favourite part of the trip was visiting different places along the south-east coast of Australia some of these places include; Eden, Refugee Cove, Rhye, and Port Phillip Bay. The only low point for me was sea sickness. Apart from that the whole journey, honestly, was just so rewarding and fun, you never knew what to expect! I learnt that I definitely have the courage and confidence to throw myself outside of my comfort zone and try new experiences. Some of the activities such as climbing the loft and jumping the rope swing, I definitely never would have considered doing in the past.”

Thank you, Rothschild Australia!
