Coordinator of Children & Young People Services
Hello YCs! It is an honour to be a part of this YC team and I look forward to working with you all during the year. A little about me – I am a registered nurse and for the last 5 years have been working with children and young adults across Australia. I love magic, AFL (Carlton) and my favourite musician is Shannon Noll!

Hey there fabulous YCs! I am super excited to be a part of the YC team. Here is a little about myself… I am a Social Worker, I play guitar, I am a huge musical theatre fan and am a foodie. I also love to travel around Australia and to visit other countries. I look forward to getting to know you!
Young Carer Project Officer
Hello friends! I am a Queensland girl (struggling with the cold weather) and my spare time in recent weeks has been taken up with binge watching Australian Ninja Warrior and re-runs of Friends. I am more than happy to spend hours talking with you about either, or anything else! I am so excited to be a part of this wonderful team and I look forward to meeting you all in the not-too-distant future.
Carers NSW works with all carers regardless of their age, location, life-stage or circumstances. This includes those caring for individuals with support needs relating to ageing, disability, health and mental illness. Carers NSW is a not-for-profit registered charity. In June 2015 Carers NSW status changed to company limited by guarantee. We are governed by a Board of Directors in accordance with the Corporations Act 2001 and the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012.
Mary is the NSW ANYCAT Rep, she is 16 years old and from Sydney. Mary graduated from the Young Carer Leadership Program in 2014 and went on to become the official ANYCAT Rep in 2016.
“Hey guys! My name is Mary, I’m 16 and I’m the NSW ANYCAT rep! I’m super excited to meet other awesome YCs from all over Australia, raise awareness about Young Carer issues and make the lives of Young Carers better! I care for my Dad who has Motor Neurone Disease, and my younger brother Dan who has Autism and an Intellectual Disability. I graduated from the Young Carer Leadership Program in 2014 and I was a director for the amazing #YCproject film! My hobbies include playing with my cats Ed (named after Ed Sheeran cos he’s a ginger) and Stormageddon Dark Lord of All. I really love cats, in fact, I’ll fall in love with almost ANY CAT (ha… ha… ha…). As well as being a crazy cat lady, I am also a musical theatre nerd, Harry Potter obsessed and I work at Taronga Zoo! Ta ta for now, Mary.”
Mary attended the ANYCAT conference in Brisbane in May 2016, along with team member Bonnie and outgoing ANYCAT rep Tevita. They represented young carers in NSW and provided feedback to Carers Australia. Stay tuned to the Young Carer Website to be kept up-to-date on Mary’s experience as the ANYCAT representative for NSW!
*ANYCAT is the Australian National Young Carer Action Team, made up of young carer representatives from Carers Associations in every state and territory. ANYCAT reps catch up once a year to give advice and feedback on the national Young Carer Program. They let us know what’s working well and also what could be improved on. It’s a great opportunity to meet young carers from all across Australia and brainstorm ideas together on how to better support and connect with young carers.
